Origin Story of REX.one

We’re regularly asked why our company is named REX.one instead of REX, One REX, or Team Rex, so we asked our Founder and CEO, Steven Uecke. He shared the amusing backstory of REX.one’s name.

Steven stated that the company as founded in 2011 as RexConn Design, which evolved into REX Engineering Group as that team of connection engineers grew into full structural and MEP engineering services.

When we acquired a construction company in 2019, we wanted a name that would unite the two companies as one team and something that had a technical flair, as Steven planned to launch REX Technology Solutions in the coming years (having already acquired Descon in 2012). After some creative thinking, he stumbled on the domain suffix of “one” and it reminded him of fond memories from his childhood.

You see, Steven is a child of the late 1980s and early 1990s and grew up, like most boys in that era, obsessing over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (affectionately known as TMNT), which first aired in 1987.

Most people just remember the main characters of TMNT, which included Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, Shredder, and of course, Master Splinter (their sensei). Some diehard fans may even remember April O’Neil, Krang, Rocksteady, Bebop, and Casey Jones, but only the steel trap of a brain like Steven Uecke would remember REX-1.

REX-1 was an obscure character that only appeared in two episodes of the original series. Per Turtlepedia: He is a robot policeman, and his name is an acronym for “Robot Enforcement Experiment,” the “1” designating his status as the first model produced.

Steven’s love for robots started at a young age and the name REX-1 stuck with him decades later.

Today, REX.one is the parent brand of REX Engineering Group, REX Construction Services, and REX Technology Solutions, our email domain across all four brands, and a fun-hearted April Fool’s joke. REX.one wasn’t named after REX-1 – gotcha!
